Carl Shaw, Owner/Chairman
Carl Shaw was the visionary founder of UAI in 1986 when he recognized the need for utility rate and tariff design, evaluation and negotiation at regulatory agencies, utility companies and organizational and government users on local and national levels.  While at UAI, he served as a consultant to the Georgia Public Service Commission to address a rate case filed by Georgia Power Company and restructure Georgia’s electric and natural gas industries.  Carl has also lead UAI’s utility pricing studies on over 10 county school systems in Georgia and electric rate studies for government groups in Georgia, Missouri, Virginia and Texas.  He continues to guide and be a spokesperson for the company with clients and various agencies and energy organizations.

Prior to founding UAI, Carl worked for Georgia Power Company for over 25 years, first in marketing and then as a Rates Manager.  Most of the electric rates, rules and regulations for Georgia Power’s electric service manuals that are still in use today were specifically designed by or designed under his direct supervision.

Kevin Shaw, President
Since its founding in 1987, Kevin Shaw has helped drive the strategy and growth of UAI.  Responsible for all business development initiatives, Kevin established the company as the expert in national utility rate analysis and energy management leader it is today.  Kevin also directs UAI’s operations, growing UAI’s capabilities to provide a complete spectrum of rate and tariff analyses in regulated utilities as well as energy procurement in deregulated service areas.  He also spearheaded the development of UAI’s proprietary software that facilitates these services.

Tommy Greer, Director Business Development
Tommy Greer brings 20 years of energy industry experience working with utilities, local distribution companies, energy suppliers, energy service companies and energy users in a variety of capacities.  Managing UAI’s active business development efforts, Tommy is growing UAI’s footprint to provide comprehensive energy management services.

Most recently, Tommy worked with General Electric (GE) where he had direct responsibility for business development and creation of the company’s energy supply-sourcing program.  He has secured multi-million dollar energy service improvements for various industrial, institutional and commercial customers throughout his career.   His experience in both conducting analyses and representing interest for both utilities/suppliers and energy users demonstrates his depth of knowledge. Tommy has also worked with Federal and State de-regulation activities and Public Utility Commission regulations.

Dale Huff, Director of IT and Senior Project Management
Dale Huff has worked in numerous capacities in the utility industry since 1989.  His background includes business development, saving analyses for both commercial and industrial clients, and building and managing information technology systems.  He also developed an important precision measurement system capability that is still used for solid state metering equipment.

Dale joined UAI in 1996 as a senior analyst managing data acquisition efforts and rate analyses.  In early 2000, he took the responsibility for UAI’s IT initiatives, and designed and supervised the development of the company’s custom Utility Tracking System (UTS).  He also manages multiple client projects and oversees activities of UAI’s junior analysts.

Prior to UAI, Dale worked with Schlumberger as a senior design engineer where he designed precision electricity metering systems.  He also participated in the development of
ANSI standards for metering and system loss compensation models to integrate into metering systems and software while there.

Dennis Zvosec, Director Procurement Services and Project Manager
Dennis Zvosec has spent his career analyzing utility rate tariffs, facilitating deregulated procurement in a variety of markets, and negotiating risk and contract management.  He has an in-depth understanding of the impact of electric pricing on end-users’ bottom-line and has helped multiple clients realize significant cost savings.  He also designed a transmission and distribution system.

Since joining UAI in 1999, Dennis has been responsible for providing energy consulting services to industrial and commercial clients.  His ability to analyze, identify, negotiate and implement cost cutting strategies has helped clients save millions in utilities expenses.  He also manages rate reviews, contract reviews and commodity procurement processes for clients with multi-site and multi-state footprints, delivering regulated rate savings and minimizing deregulated procurement costs.

Prior to UAI, Dennis owned and managed Total Energy Consulting Engineers, a consulting company providing energy services to commercial and industrial clients, and strategic direction and solutions for new energy procurement processes capitalizing on deregulating marketplace.  He spent 12 years at Oglethorpe Power as a Development Engineer before running his consulting company, developing pricing and rates to support sales and leading cross-functional project teams.  Dennis also worked for Duke Power.

A Brief History of Utilities Analyses, Inc.

Headquartered in Atlanta, GA, Utilities Analyses, Inc., (UAI) has been serving clients since 1972. A change in ownership occurred in 1986 when the current owner, Carl Shaw, purchased the Company.

Prior to purchasing UAI, Carl worked for Georgia Power Company for over 25 years, first in marketing and then as a Rates Manager.  Most of the electric rates, rules and regulations for Georgia Power's electric service manuals, which are still in use today, were specifically designed by him or designed under his direct supervision. Carl recognized the need for commercial and industrial customers to understand utility rate design and the available options for pricing.  As a result, Carl began hiring other utility company professionals with backgrounds in utility and energy supply-side pricing.

UAI now has 17 professionals on staff with over 230 years of utility and energy company pricing experience. UAI's staff understands how a utility and energy companies operates from the inside and uses their combined experience to lower costs (pricing) for UAI's clients.

After establishing UAI, Carl served as a consultant to the Georgia Public Service Commission to address rate cases filed by Georgia Power Company and restructure Georgia's electric and natural gas industries.  Carl has also lead UAI's utility pricing studies for government groups in Georgia, Missouri, Virginia and Texas.  He continues to guide and be a spokesperson for the company with clients and various agencies and energy organizations.

The next generation of management began their transition in 1998 when Kevin Shaw began developing new strategies and initiatives to provide a complete spectrum of rate and tariff analyses in regulated utilities as well as energy procurement in deregulated service areas.  He also spearheaded the development of UAI's proprietary software that facilitates these services. By 2000, UAI started shifting from just supply-side services to offering supply-side services and online systems; embarking on the development of the web-enabled Utility Tracking SystemŽ (UTS), which has become a valuable national pricing database.

UAI's open architecture of the Utility Tracking System allows UAI to take in electronic data from any source such as third party bill payers. The Utility Tracking System finds timely and maximum savings opportunities. Thus, UAI began taking on large multi-site national accounts that needed to be acted upon with pricing expertise.

From the inception of energy deregulation, beginning with natural gas in 1986 and later with electricity in 1998, UAI's role as an independent, unbiased advocate has reduced energy supply costs for clients with peace of mind. With a 25 year history of providing both regulated and deregulated procurement services, UAI is unique in the ability to provide the most comprehensive solution with maximum results. Coupled with seasoned resources who have in-depth understanding of energy markets, UAI secures the lowest cost commodity with a prudent price/risk management strategy to manage volatility. UAI's dual offering of staff members' utility pricing experience (gained from previously working for utilities), coupled with a user friendly and web-enabled information system has created strategic pricing intelligence nationally, which along with a national rate library are being leveraged by customers who want the competitive advantage.

Since Utilities Analyses does not sell or trade any commodity and/or supply energy equipment, our entire focus is objective and supplier-neutral.

Today, UAI has grown to now manage almost $2 Billion in annual utility expenditures at over 13,000 facilities nationally. UAI's clients include states, municipalities and school systems as well as many Fortune 500 firms.
